Love this, thank you for taking him in ❤️
While many cartoons and comedy sketches depict mailmen being chased off or barked at by dogs, in reality, delivery workers often make friends with the animals they encounter daily.
The UPS Dogs Facebook page celebrates these friendships, sharing stories of drivers who not only deliver packages but also provide treats and toys for these dogs.
One driver, Katie Newhouser, loves all the dogs she meets on her daily route, but she developed a special bond with one particular dog.
This bond would prove crucial when this lovable pooch found himself without a home. Katie, who not only has three dogs of her own but also enjoys spending time with the dogs on her delivery route, felt a special connection with a pit bull named Leo.
“He would always start barking as I pulled into the condo complex……He would always jump into my truck when I stopped,” Katie wrote in a Facebook post.
Katie even made friends with Leo’s owner Tina who told her that her son had found Leo when he was a puppy and he had to be bottle fed.
Katie received some devastating news
According to Katie, “They (Tina and Leo) were very, very close and did everything together. I don’t believe that dogs ever forget anyone who they have been that close to.”
In July 2017, Katie received devastating news when she learned that Tina, Leo’s mom and her friend, had passed away. After the initial shock subsided, she began to worry about Leo’s future and reached out to Tina’s son, Cannon, to inquire if he would take care of Leo. However, Cannon, who was an active-duty Marine, informed her that he could not.
He and his brother Moose are inseperable
Despite already having three dogs, Katie made the decision to adopt Leo herself.
“At first, it was probably confusing for him, but he has adapted well,” Katie shared. “He and his brother Moose are inseparable. Bailey, his sister, took a while to come around, but they actually play now. Once Leo was introduced into the house, the whole vibe changed.”
Katie’s announcement of Leo’s new home on the UPS Dogs Facebook page garnered thousands of comments celebrating the news.
Although Leo misses his mom, Tina, he has found a new home with someone who loves him dearly. It’s no wonder that this lovable pooch brings a smile to the faces of everyone he meets.
